WestEd, a nonprofit research, development, and service agency, works with education and other communities to promote excellence, achieve equity, and improve learning for children, youth, and adults. While WestEd serves the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah as one of the nation’s Regional Educational Laboratories, our agency’s work extends throughout the United States and abroad. WestEd has 17 offices nationwide, from Washington and Boston to Arizona, Southern California, and its headquarters in San Francisco.

Position Description

The Assessment and Standards Development Services (ASDS) division of WestEd is looking for educators to write computer technology and digital-video technology test items to be used in career-technical education assessments. The writing of computer technology and digital-video technology test items will begin in April 2010 and will be completed approximately in December 2010. We are looking for part-time item writers. Item writers will work off-site and submit their completed work through an online system.

Responsibilities:
Item writers will write high quality multiple-choice and constructed-response items that assess course-specific computer technology and digital-video technology curriculum and that meet WestEd item writing guidelines. For each constructed-response item, item writers will write an accompanying scoring guide/rubric.

Writers will write high quality multiple-choice and constructed-response computer technology and digital-video technology items for career-technical education assessments. Item writers will be paid for each item submitted and approved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related computer-technology and digital-video technology fields.
  • Strong computer technology and digital-video technology content knowledge.
  • Experience teaching computer technology or digital-video technology subjects (high school grade levels).
  • Experience developing computer technology and digital-video technology assessment and/or curriculum materials (high school grade level).
  • Strong writing, analytical, and thinking skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to read and understand curriculum documents.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and guidelines.
  • Ability to fact-check and document content for original computer technology and digital-video test items.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials.
  • Ability to communicate via email and Internet access (please see the technical qualifications section).
  • Open to feedback and review.

Technical Qualifications
Item writers will need to have consistent high-speed Internet access to email and our online development system. Operating system requirements include Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Mac OS X. Compatible Internet browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, Mozilla Firefox 1.3 or above, Window 2000 Window XP (Preferred), Mac v.10.2 or above. In your letter of interest, please indicate your preference for writing.
